Empowering adult survivors of childhood trauma to go deeper & safely get out of survival mode.
“When an event has been sufficiently processed, we remember it but do not experience the old emotions or sensations in the present. We are informed by our memories, not controlled by them.”

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an eight-phase brain based therapy that helps you safely process the memories, beliefs, sensations and emotions rooted in trauma that may be keeping you stuck in survival mode or in a dissociative state.
EMDR can bring new insights, adaptive beliefs and nervous system relief needed to heal deeply and feel safe again.
For those with higher levels of dissociation, EMDR can promote the internal safety needed to work towards a more integrated understanding of the self as a whole.

Maybe you’ve thought “One part of me logically knows that I’m not in danger anymore, but another part of me still feels under threat.”
Ego state therapy can help you safely turn inward to identify the parts of you that may need deeper understanding, nurturing, reassurance, resolution or comfort after trauma.
My approach informed by Structural Dissociation Theory is especially supportive for folks who are impacted by complex trauma and higher levels of structural dissociation.
As an extended Phase 2 of EMDR, ego state therapy can reduce phobic avoidance, dissociation, and disconnection to prepare you for EMDR reprocessing.

You may relate to the pain that shows up when people make assumptions about you or claim to know your story.
While staying close to my own values, I am careful to understand that you are a multi-storied and complex individual who deserves to be met with curiosity and respect. My approach informed by Narrative Therapy, centers all of the stories that are otherwise untold, so you feel empowered to know yourself and be known more authentically.
This non-pathologizing and relational approach will help you feel ready to take a stand against the harmful and inaccurate stories trauma and oppression convinced you to believe about yourself. In our conversations, we’ll work to understand how your daily life and mental health are impacted by the larger systems you find yourself in.
Through Narrative Therapy, you can feel empowered to change your relationships to the problems you’re impacted by and begin to live a life that is deeply rooted in your values, not the problem’s values.
Shared Stories Counseling is right for you if you’re ready to go deeper & find relief from…

Hi, I’m Victoria Kachinski, LICSW. I’m so glad you’re here!
It’s my hope that you can experience our conversations as casual, warm, affirming, inviting and down to earth. I believe you are the expert on your own life and you already have everything you need to succeed. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to witness your progress and support you along the way.
In our sessions, we’ll work to understand how your past experience of trauma and stress may be causing present day mental and physical disturbance like anxiety, depression, fear, irritability, dissociation and emotional numbness. I understand that it’s hard to get out of survival mode alone. Throughout the years, I’ve been so lucky to witness my clients overcome their pasts and thrive again after trauma.
I know the same is possible for you.
